I watched this movie right after watching 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen'. I was not really excited to watch Terminator and Transformers back-to-back, but my husband did not want to watch 'The Proposal'. Nothing else was on around that time, so we ended up watching Terminator. I was thinking to myself, "Great! From giant robots to human-size robots."

Terminator is darker both in the sense of the story and visually. The atmosphere of the story is rather gloomy. Everything was destroyed (or partly destroyed), human hides from the robots and they live in run-down places like an underground bunker, deserted tunnels, etc. I don't know why but most movies that takes place in the future, depicts the future to be in worse condition than the presence. The technologies are worse and living conditions are worse. Where are the flying cars, where are the automated robots... Oops the terminators have those, its just they were killing humans!!!
Christian Bale and Sam Worthington give good performances. Not much acting is needed when its all about the actions. Great kudos are given to Anton Yelchin, who plays Kyle Reese in this movie. He apparently plays Chekov, one of my favorite characters in Star Trek. Very excited when I find out about that. I'm now looking forward to his upcoming projects. He is great.
Another actress I noticed immediately was Helena Bonham Carter. I didn't expect her to be in the movie, since she always appear in Tim Burton's masterpieces. It was a pleasant surprise. I like her as an actress. I think she is unique and special. I like her even more after finding out that she worked together with Tim Roth in 'Planet of the Apes'.
The most absurd thing about this movie is in the end when John Connor was dying and Marcus heroically offered him to take his heart. Come on people, even if the movie takes place in the future (2018 is not that far by the way), how can they do a heart transplant without testing their blood types, tissue sample, biological match and DNA?
I am not a big fan of the little romance between Marcus and Blair. It seems out of place. I don't really understand the motivation behind Blair, betraying all her friends to free up Marcus. I know she said,"I see a man, not a robot", but that reason alone is not enough to justify your betrayal.
The famous line "I'll be back" was said by John Connor. Maybe, the next Terminator movie will have the other famous Arnold's line "Astalavista, baby". (If, there is a next Terminator movie). Quite happy to heard that line, but a little bit sad that it's not said by Arnold. He is too busy becoming the Governator. No more Terminator for him.
The robots in Transformers are way cooler than the robots in Terminator. It's understandable, since robots in Transformers are actually aliens (living being), whereas the ones in the Terminator are made by humans, in a run down factory. The target audiences are pretty different too. Terminator has more serious tone, compare to Transformers.
Overall, I think Terminator is a decent movie. It's not as bad as I thought it would, but its not something that I'll rewatch again in the future.
